Badminton Asia Team Championships: Indian teams begin campaigns with wins


India men’s and women’s teams started their campaigns at the Badminton Asia Team Championships with wins, beating Singapore and Myanmar, respectively, in the opening round in Qingdao on Wednesday.

While men’s team won the 3-2, while the defending champion women’s team blanked its opponent 5-0.

In the men’s category, Satwik Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty in doubles won 21-10, 21-8 against Eng Koh and Junsuke Kubo; Ayush Shetty beat 21-17, 21-15 Jia Teh; and Kidambi Srikanth got the better of Jia Koh 21-15, 21-16.

However, Lakshya Sen lost 16-21, 21-19, 16-21 to Loh Kean Yeuu in singles, and Pruthvi Roy and Sai Prateek were defeated by Nge Joo Jie and Donovan Wee in doubles.

In the women’s category, Tanvi Sharma beat Thet Htar Thuzar 21-13, 21-16 before Rakshitha Sree Santhosh Ramraj defeated Eaint Chit Phoo 21-12, 21-6 in the second singles to take a 2-0 lead.

Malvika Bansod then sealed the tie for India as she got the better of Lin Lin Htet 21-19, 21-12 in the third singles.

The Indians continued their domination in doubles as well winning both the matches in straight games.

The pair of Priya Konjengbam and Shruti Mishra defeated Su Latt and Thet Htar Thuzar 21-15, 21-16 before Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand hardly broke a sweat to get past the combination of Htet and Phoo 21-8, 21-6.
