Women’s Hockey India League 2025-26: SG Pipers crowned champion with shootout win over Bengal Tigers
SG Pipers was crowned the champion of the Women’s Hockey India League 2025-26 with a thrilling 3-2 shootout win victory over Bengal Tigers after a 1-1 stalemate in the final held in Ranchi on Saturday.
This closely contested battle followed this season’s trend between the two sides, as their previous two encounters also necessitated a shootout to find a winner.
Bengal Tigers initially seized the momentum when Lalremsiami found the back of the net in the 16th minute. It maintained the narrow advantage for much of the game, appearing poised for a regulation-time victory.
However, SG Pipers intensified its offensive pressure in the closing stages, leading to an equaliser by Preeti Dubey with less than eight minutes remaining.
The deadlock persisted until the final hooter, setting the stage for Pipers’ eventual triumph in the shootout.
