Indian Open Athletics Meet Ranchi 2025: Veteran sprinter Amiya Mallick tops 100m on return
Amiya Mallick topped the field but the 32-year old was far from his best, clocking 10.66 seconds to win the 100m at the 3rd Indian Open athletics meet at the Birsa Munda Stadium here on Thursday.
The former national record holder, with a personal best of 10.26s, was returning to action after 2023 and although he has not slipped since then – he clocked the same at the Open Nationals back then – Indian men’s sprint has quickened a lot and Amiya clearly has work to do.
It was a similar story among the women with Srabani Nanda completing the sprint double but in relatively slow timings – 12.33 for 100m and 24.75s for 200m – that were still good enough to beat the field in overcast conditions, followed by a heavy downpour and storms that forced the organisers to stop the competition for more than two hours.
