FIA Deputy President resigns citing ‘breakdown in governance standards’
The governing body of motorsport, the Federation Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA), faced a fresh leadership controversy after deputy president for sport, Robert Reid, handed in his resignation.
The 2001 World Rally Championship co-driver who ran alongside Mohammed Ben Sulayem in their successful 2021 election campaign cited “a fundamental breakdown in governance standards within motorsport’s global governing body” as the reason for his resignation.
In a post on social media platform X, Reid wrote, “I took on this role to deliver greater transparency, stronger governance and collaborative leadership. Over time, these principles have been increasingly set aside, and I can no longer, in good faith, remain part of a system that no longer reflects them.”
