ISSF World Cup, Buenos Aires 2025: Suruchi Singh wins India’s third gold medal in 10m air pistol final

Suruchi Inder Singh on Tuesday won the gold medal in women’s 10m air pistol at the season-opening ISSF World Cup in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Until the ninth shot of the final, the 18-year-old was only trailing China’s Qian Wei. Incidentally, a rare 8.9 saw her momentarily drop to fourth place.

However, she shot back up quickly, even snatching the lead from Wei after getting a 10.7 and 10.8 in the first elimination series.

She not only held on to the first place but also kept extending the lead ever so slightly with each elimination. After four eliminations, the difference with Wei was 0.5.

Double Olympic medallist Jiang Ranxin broke away from compatriot Qianxun Yao in a shoot-off to assure herself of at least a bronze medal. She finished third.

Wei had to close a gap of 1.2 to win the gold, but her efforts went in vain as Suruchi got a 10.8 off her penultimate shot.

Earlier, Suruchi, who had won an impressive seven gold medals in the shooting Nationals in New Delhi last year, had topped the qualification chart with 583 besting the likes of Wei (second, 582-23x) and Ranxin (third, 582-17x).

India has now won three gold medals, a gold and a silver in the competition. China tops the leaderboard with three gold, two silver and two bronze.
