Fourth in qualification, gold in final: Lakshay wins men’s trap at Digvijay Singh Championship

Asian Games silver medallist Lakshay Sheoran beat Fahd Sultan 47-45 for the gold in men’s trap in the third Digvijay Singh shotgun championship at the Madhya Pradesh Academy on Thursday.

It was a commendable fare from Lakshay after he came fourth in qualification. Suleman Elahi won the bronze ahead of Arjun, Olympian Prithviraj Tondaiman and Arshad Khan.

In women’s trap, Neeru pipped Kirti Gupta 45-44 for the gold. Olympian Rajeshwari Kumari won the bronze ahead of qualification topper Preeti Rajak (119). National championship silver medallist Sabeera Haris beat Pragati Dubey to the fifth spot.

Sabeera won the junior silver after being beaten in the shoot-off 2-1 by Shreshtha Sisodiya.

Prozorova best Von Deichmann in ITF quarters

Tatiana Prozorova beat fourth seed Kathinka Von Deichmann 6-4, 7-5 in the quarterfinals of the $60,000 ITF women’s tennis tournament at the Deccan Gymkhana on Thursday.

Prozorova will play seventh seed Elena Pridankina in the semifinals. The other semifinal will be between top seed Leolia Jeanjean and Panna Udvardy.

The Indian challenge ended in doubles, as Rutuja Bhosale in partnership with Alicia Barnett of Britain was beaten 6-3, 6-1 by Maria KozyreFahva and Iryna Shymanovich.

Mundhe wins Indore ITF quarterfinals

Parthsarthi Mundhe battled past third seed Saina Vaidya 7-5, 5-7, 6-2 in the quarterfinals of the ITF junior tennis tournament at the Indore Tennis Club on Thursday.

In the semifinals, Parthsarthi will play top seed Diya Ramesh. Second seed Harshini Nagaraj will play Prachi Malik in the other semifinal.

In the boys section, four of the top five seeds, Smaarth Sahita, Praneel Sharma, Aashravya Mehra and Aditya Mor reached the semifinals.
