WTT Star Contender Chennai: Sharath Kamal loses in Round of 16, brings down curtains on career
Sharath Kamal brought down the curtains on an illustrious career after he lost 0-3 to compatriot Snehit Suravajjula in the Round of 16 of the WTT Star Contender at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Chennai on Saturday.
While the younger of the two Indian paddlers began the first game well, his senior slowly but surely levelled at 9-9. However, Sharath sent the ball straight into the net to concede the first game 9-11.
The 42-year-old racked up four consecutive points before Snehit opened his account in the second game. While the two-time Asian Games bronze medallist urged the crowd to cheer on after seeing off a fast-paced rally, the momentum swung like a pendulum between the two players. It was Snehit who ultimately took the game 11-8, thanks to some unforced errors from his compatriot.
The 24-year-old booked his place in the quarterfinals with a 11-9 win in the third game, but it wasn’t without a tough fight from the veteran.
