Women’s Grand Prix: Vaishali wins second-round match in Austria


Indian Grandmaster R. Vaishali on Wednesay defeated Georgian Lela Javakhishvili to pick her second win of the FIDE Women’s Grand Prix series in Austria.

Playing with black pieces, Vaishali forced her opponent to retire in 39 moves.

Vaishali moved to the first place with the victory with two points from as many rounds. She overcame Bulgaria’s Nurgyul Salimova in the opening round on Tuesday.

She will face Dzagnidze Nana of Georgia in the third round.

The competition in Grosslobming is the final in a series of six tournaments in the 2024/2025 Women’s Grand Prix cycle.
