Umar Saifi, Simran’s guide at World Para Athletics Championships, provisionally suspended for doping
Umar Saifi, Simran Sharma’s guide at the 2025 World Para Athletics Championships — held in New Delhi last week — has been named in the National Anti-Doping Agency’s (NADA’s) list of athletes provisionally suspended for doping.
Saifi, 20, had helped Simran retain her 100 metre T12 gold and bag a silver medal in the 200m T12 in the recently concluded championships. He was enlisted among suspended athletes in a document published by NADA on October 9, which mentions him testing positive for banned substance, Drostanolone.
Drostanolone helps the body increase muscle mass and strength while also reducing fat. Like all steroids, it is banned by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) for its performance-enhancing capacity.
The document says Saifi violated Article 2.1 and 2.2 of the anti-doping rule, but no details have been provided about where and when he was tested.
Simran and her guide had recorded an Asian Record time of 24.46s to finish behind Brazil’s Clara Daniele Barros Da Silva (24.42s) in the 200m T12. She had also clocked a Personal Best time of 11.95 seconds to win gold in the 100m T12.
