Tata Steel Masters: Gukesh loses to Abdusattorov; Erigaisi, Praggnanandha salvage draws
World champion D. Gukesh lost to Nodirbek Abdusattorov after the Uzbekistan GM took advantage of a blunder by the Indian in the sixth round, securing the sole lead at the Tata Steel Masters in Wijk Aan Zee, Netherlands, on Friday.
Gukesh, who had earned his maiden win in the previous round, made an inexplicable blunder and had to resign immediately. He now sits joint-fourth in the leaderboard on three points, while Abdusattorov tops the table with 4.5 points.
Javokhir Sindarov occupies second place with four points after securing a draw with Aravindh Chithambaram. Three players — Vladimir Fedoseev, Hans Niemann and Vincent Keymer — share third place with three points each.
Meanwhile, Arjun Erigaisi managed to earn a draw with Matthias Bluebaum to join Gukesh on three points. R. Praggnanandhaa shared points with Vladimir, taking his tally to two points alongside Chithambaram.
In the seventh round on Saturday, Gukesh takes on Anish Giri, Praggnanandha faces Bluebaum, Erigaisi plays Erdogmus, and Chithambaram meets Jordan Van Foreest.
