Tata Steel Masters: Gukesh bounces back, beats Fedoseev; Praggnanandhaa, Erigaisi secure draws

World champion D. Gukesh bounced back on Sunday against Vladimir Fedoseev, securing a victory after two consecutive losses at the ongoing Tata Steel Masters 2026, taking place in Wijk Aan Zee, Netherlands.

Gukesh, playing with black pieces, beat the Russian GM in a game that was ultimately decided by tactics. With this result, the 19-year-old moved back to joint-fourth in the leaderboard with four points.

Meanwhile, in an all Indian clash, Arjun Erigaisi and Aravindh Chithambaram settled for an ‘exciting’ draw, taking half a point each.

R. Praggnanandhaa managed to eke out a draw against 14-year-old GM Yagiz Kaan Erdogmus, who had beaten Erigaisi earlier.

Nodirbek Abdusattorov continues to lead the standings with 5.5 points despite losing to a resurgent Anish Giri, who beat the Uzbek GM with black pieces.

Javokhir Sindarov is second with five points after securing a draw with Vincent Keymer.

Following the rest day on Monday, the ninth round on Tuesday will feature the following games for the Indians: Gukesh vs Matthias Bluebaum, Praggnanandhaa vs Chithambaram and Erigaisi vs Hans Moke Niemann.
