Sreeshankar finishes top at Meeting Maia Cidade do Desporto 2025 with best jump of 7.75m


Murali Sreeshankar finished first at the Meeting Maia Cidade do Desporto 2025, a World Athletics Continental Tour bronze level meet (cat C), on Saturday.

Sreeshankar’s best attempt of 7.75m came in the second round.

He started with a 7.63m and after his best jump in the second round, followed with jumps of 7.69m, a foul attempt, 6.12m and 7.58m.

Poland’s Piotr Tarkowski and Australia’s Chris Mitrevski finished second and third, respectively.

Sreeshankar was out of action for a long period of time after suffering a knee injury, which forced him to miss the Paris Olympics 2024.

After 650 days out of action, Sreeshankar returned to action at the Indian Open Athletics in Pune on July 12, where he finished first with an attempt of 8.05m.

Now, Sreeshankar’s primary aim would be to qualify for the World Championships later this year in Tokyo and keep himself in the mix for next year’s Commonwealth Games and Asian Games.
