Spitzen Leichtathletik Luzern — Animesh Kujur impresses but misses podium in World Athletics meet

India’s national record holder Animesh Kujur clocked impressive times of 10.28s (100m) and 20.79s (200m) at the Spitzen Leichtathletik Luzern, a World Athletics Continental Tour Silver meet in Switzerland on Wednesday.

Although he missed the podium, Kujur was the best performer among India’s six male athletes at the event, finishing eighth in the 100m and ninth in the 200m.

His 4x100m relay teammates from the National Relay Carnival, Manikanta Hoblidar and Amlan Borgohain, endured a disappointing outing, with only Hoblidar completing the 200m in 21.36s.

Five Indians competed in the 100m: Kujur, Hoblidar, Jayaram DM, Lalu Bhoi, and Gurindervir Singh. While the 22-year-old Kujur placed eighth, the others finished outside the top 15.

Moumita also competed in the women’s 100m hurdles heats, where she placed 13th in 13.48s.

In the men’s javelin, 2018 national junior champion Sahil Silwal finished third in Group B with a throw of 77.52m and seventh overall — well short of his personal best of 81.81m.

India’s sole women’s javelin finalist, National Games silver medallist Karishma Sanil (PB: 55.55m), placed 12th. She opened with 47.48m before improving to 53.93m on her final attempt.
