Solidarity Grand Prix: Jorge Martin becomes MotoGP 2024 World Champion
Prima Pramac Racing’s Jorge Martin clinched his maiden MotoGP World Championship title even though Ducati’s Francesco Bagnaia won the Solidarity Grand Prix, the final race of the season, in Barcelona on Sunday.
Spaniard Martin needed to finish inside the Top 9 to win the title. Unlike the last race of the previous season, the 26-year-old avoided crashing out and safely finished third to seal the deal.
Bagnaia, who was going for a third straight title, finished with 498 points in the final standings, 10 behind Martin.
The final race was held in Barcelona, which already hosted a grand prix in May, after catastrophic floods in Valencia forced organisers to move the season finale.
