Shooting Nationals: Kiran beats Aishwary in final; son of Olympian Joydeep strikes gold in juniors
Kiran Jadhav beat Olympian Aishwary Pratap Tomar by 2.7 points to clinch the gold in the men’s 50-metre rifle 3-position event in the 67th National Shooting Championship at the Madhya Pradesh Academy on Wednesday.
Olympic bronze medallist, Swapnil Kusale had topped qualification by equalling the national record of 593 out of 600 and led the field till the 40th shot of the 45-shot final. However, a string of 9s and an 8 pulled him down to the bronze medal.
Niraj Kumar, Nishan Budha, Babu Singh Panwar, Goldi Gurjar and Rohit Kanyan were the others to make the final and placed fourth to eighth in that order.
In the junior section, Adriyan Karmakar rose to the gold with a four-point margin over Kushagra Singh Rajawat.
Rundrankksh Patil who had missed the men’s final with his score of 587, made the junior final but placed sixth.
