Satwik-Chirag reach BWF World Championships quarterfinals
India’s men’s doubles pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty on Thursday defeated Paris Olympics silver medallist team and World No. 6 Wei Keng Liang and Chang Wang 19-21, 21-15, 21-17 to advance to the quarterfinals at the BWF World Championships in Paris.
Satwik and Chirag trailled 15-17 in the deciding game but snatched six points on the bounce to secure the victory, making it only the the third time in nine meetings where they have prevailed over the Chinese team.
They will now face the Malaysian World No. 2 pair of Aaron Chia and Woo Yik Soh in the last-eight.
Earlier on Thursday, P.V. Sindhu and the mixed doubles team of Tanisha Crasto and Dhruv Kapila also secured their places in the quarterfinals.
