Satwik-Chirag pair finishes runner-up at China Masters 2025

Indian men’s doubles pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty finished runner-up at a BWF World Tour event for the second week in a row, losing to World No. 1 Kim Won-ho and Seo Seung-jae in the China Masters Super 750’s final in Shenzhen on Sunday.

Koreans Kim and Seo, the reigning world champions, defeated the eighth-seeded Indian duo 21-19, 21-15 in 45 minutes.

Satwik and Chirag had also suffered defeat in last week’s Hong Kong Open final. The pair, a two-time World Championships bronze medallist, has been searching for its first title since Thailand Open in May last year.

In the first game, the Indians seemed to be in control after winning eight straight points to lead 14-7. However, the lefty-right combination of the Koreans bounced back to clinch six points on the trot and close the gap. With the momentum on their side, the top seeds bagged the opener.

The second game was a much closer affair with the Koreans leading by a solitary point at the mid-game interval. From 11-11, Kim and Seo won four points in a row and kept the Indians at bay to eventually seal the title.

Korea’s An Se-young, the Olympic champion, secured the women’s singles title for the second straight year as the 23-year-old top seed needed just 33 minutes to overpower third seed and home favourite Han Yue 21-11, 21-3.

In the men’s final, local star Weng Hongyang defeated Lin Chun-yi of Chinese Taipei 21-11, 21-15.
