PV Sindhu knocked out of BWF World Championships, loses quarterfinal to Indonesia’s Putri Wardani
P. V. Sindhu lost her quarterfinal 14-21, 21-13, 16-21 to Indonesia’s Putri Kusuma Wardani and was knocked out of the BWF World Championships in Paris on Friday.
Sindhu was one win away from a medal, her sixth at the Worlds, but could not get past the World No. 9 and lost in an hour and two minutes.
The World No. 15 Indian was off to a slow start in the first game. But she bounced back in the second game as her opponent struggled with length and made unforced errors.
Though Wardani led in the deciding game, Sindhu ensured the Indonesian’s lead did not extend beyond three points. However, with the score at 17-16, Wardani won four points on the bounce to advance to the semifinals.
Earlier on Friday, India’s mixed doubles pair of Tanisha Crasto and Dhruv Kapila were knocked out in the quarterfinals as well.
The men’s doubles pairing of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty is the only medal hope left for India. The duo faces Malaysia’s team of Aaron Chia and Woo Yik Soh later on Friday.
