PKL: Anup Kumar appointed as Patna Pirates head coach
Former India kabaddi team captain Anup Kumar has been appointed as the head coach of Pro Kabaddi League (PKL) season 11 runner-up Patna Pirates, the team announced on Thursday.
Anup will replace former coach Narender Redhu, who was released by the management a few hours after the Pirates lost in the final and missed out on a record fourth PKL title.
He was a member of the India national kabaddi team that won Asian gold medals (2010 and 2014), and the South Asian gold medal and the Kabaddi World Cup in 2016.
Additionally, the 41-year-old was part of the U Mumba side in the inaugural season of the tournament and went on to clinch the best raider award. However, his side lost to the Jaipur Pink Panthers in the final. He spent five years at U Mumba before moving to the Pink Panthers.
