Paris Paralympics 2024: Thulasimathi Murugesan enters gold medal match, beats compatriot Manisha Ramadass in semifinals


India’s Thulasimathi Murugesan got better of his compatriot Manisha Ramadass in the women’s SU5 badminton semifinal to enter the gold medal match at the Paris Paralympics 2024 on Sunday.

Thulasimathi guarantee India eighth medal by winning the match 23-21, 21-17 in under 40 minutes.

Thulasimathi won the first game 23-21. It was a hard fought win for the number one seed, who faced tough challenge from her compatriot. Manisha saved two game points but was unable to clinch it after drawing level. 

In the second game, Manisha started well and put Thulasimathi under early pressure and took a 11-10 mid-game lead. However, a combination of net faults and service errors derailed her progression. With a combination of vicious drop shots and pin-point placements, Thulasimathi bagged the game 21-17 in just 19 minutes.

The Indian World No 1 will face the Tokyo Paralympic gold medallist Yang Qiu Xia of China in the final.

Manisha will face Denmark’s Cathrine Rosengren for a bronze medal chance.
