Mumbai Marathon 2025: Mo Farah announced as international event ambassador

Mo Farah, the legendary distance runner, has been roped in as the International Event Ambassador for the 20th edition of the Tata Mumbai Marathon, to be held on January 19 in south Mumbai.

Farah’s appointment was made official at a media conference to confirm a record-breaking 60,000 runners’ participation in the annual gala. Farah will be in attendance to make a landmark edition even more memorable in ten days from now.

“When I run, I feel free, feel happy, and what better way to share this feeling with my fellow runners than an event that kickstarted a running movement in India 20 years ago,” Farah, the only runner to achieve a double of a gold medal in 5,000m and 10,000m at an Olympic edition, said in a message relayed on Thursday.

“Road running has been a catalyst for change, as has the city of Mumbai. I am looking forward to seeing a superb celebration amidst the sights and sounds of Mumbai. I’ll be there cheering for everyone at the start line.”

Farah, the Somalian-born British legend, holds a record number of four Olympic and six World Championship gold to have been hailed as the greatest-ever distance runner. He will be among the dignitaries who will flag off the event at the iconic Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus.

Ranked among the top 10 marathons in the world, the event will feature the world’s best, including the defending champions Hayle Lemi Berhanu and Srinu Bugatha in the men’s category.
