ISSF World Cup: Indian shooters struggle in 10m air pistol, Divya TS in 25m pistol contention
Indian shooters continued to struggle at the ISSF World Cup (rifle/pistol) on Wednesday, as Samrat Rana, Amit Sharma and Nishant Rawat fell short of making the men’s 10m air pistol final amid China’s dominance.
Samrat, a 20-year-old former junior world championship team gold medallist, was the best Indian on the day, finishing 10th in qualification with a modest 582. Hu Kai of China topped qualifying with 589 and went on to claim gold with 242.3, while compatriot You Changjie took silver with 241.5.
The double podium finish lifted China’s tally to four medals — two gold and two silver — while India is yet to open its account.
Among the other Indians, Amit, who had finished 11th in the 10m air pistol mixed team event with Surbhi Rao on Tuesday, ended up 28th with 576. Nishant was further back in 42nd with 568.
Silver lining
There was better news in the women’s 25m pistol, where Divya TS impressed in the precision round, placing seventh in a field of 37 with 291 (97, 94, 100). She remains in contention for Thursday’s final after the rapid-fire stage.
Abhidnya Patil (19th, 288) and Commonwealth and Asian Games gold medallist Rahi Sarnobat (26th, 286) also featured but face an uphill task to progress.
