ISSF Junior World Cup 2025: India dominates 50m rifle prone, win 5 medals on opening day
India made a flying start at the ISSF Junior World Cup, sweeping the women’s 50m rifle prone podium and adding two medals in the men’s event on the opening day at the Dr. Karni Singh Shooting Ranges on Thursday.
Youngster Anushka Thokur, fresh from her junior gold in the 50m rifle 3 positions at the Asian Championships in Kazakhstan, continued her fine form to clinch the top podium spot with a score of 621.6.
Eighteen-year-old Anshika secured silver with 619.2, while Aadhya Agrawal (20) claimed bronze with 615.9 in the non-Olympic discipline.
In the men’s 50m rifle prone, Deependra Singh Shekhawat and Rohit Kanyan earned their maiden international medals, finishing with silver and bronze respectively. Deependra, who also competed at the Asian Championships, tallied 617.9, while Rohit scored 616.3.
The gold went to Individual Neutral Athlete (AIN) Kamil Nuriakhmetov, who shot 618.9 in a field of 11 competitors.
Among the other Indians, Nitin Waghmare (615.6), a bronze-medallist in Kazakhstan, placed fifth. Kushagra Singh (611.6) finished eighth, while Kunal Sharma (590.9) came 11th.
Action in Olympic disciplines begins Friday with the men’s and women’s 10m air pistol events.
