Indonesia Open 2025: Malvika Bansod retires hurt during first-round match
Indian shuttler Malvika Bansod was forced to retire midway through her Round of 32 match against local player Putri Kusuma Wardani at the Indonesia Open 2025 on Tuesday.
Bansod was leading 21-16, 16-15 when she seemingly injured her knee, forcing her to withdraw from 54 minutes into the tie.
The Indian southpaw was attempting to return a shot from the back of the court when her left leg slipped, causing her to fall. She was seen clutching her left knee in pain.
She received medical attention and attempted to resume but felt considerable pain while trying to move around the court, rendering her unable to continue.
The 23-year-old has reached the Round of 16 on three occasions this season — at the Thailand Open, Malaysia Open, and All England Open — but is yet to progress to a quarterfinal on tour this year.
