AAI treasurer Dr Ummacheril elected to World Archery medical committee

Archery Association of India treasurer Dr. Joris Paulose Ummacheril was elected as a member of the medical and sports science committee of World Archery at its 56th Congress that concluded in Gwagnju, South Korea on Wednesday.

The medical and sports science committee comprises five elected members with a chairperson and deputy chairperson to be chosen from among them. At least three members, including the chairperson, must be qualified doctors. Members are elected for a two-year term.

“I wholeheartedly thank our president Arjun Munda ji, secretary general Virendra Sachdeva ji, Anil Kamineni ji and each and every one of you for the support and trust in me,” Dr Ummacheril said after his election.

“Candidates must have a medical or scientific background, with at least a master’s degree recommended.” Dr Ummacheril, who holds a BHMS degree from the University of Calicut, has been associated with the AAI in various capacities for the last 15 years.

A former archer himself, the 49-year-old has officiated as a continental judge at the Asian Grand Prix (2013, 2014), Asian Championships (2019) and Para Asian Games (2023) among other events. He has also been running a homeopathy clinic since 2005.

“I believe the committee can play a significant role in educating archers and coaches on how to understand, prevent and manage injuries in archery,” he added.

India’s Indranil Datta was re-elected to the judges’ committee of World Archery at the same Congress.

Roundglass Academy wins thrilling shootout in Punjab Junior Hockey League

Roundglass Academy won the shoot-off 3-0 against Naval Tata Academy, Jamshedpur, after the teams were locked 4-4 at the end of regulation period in the Punjab Junior Hockey League at the Balbir Singh Senior International Stadium on Wednesday.

Roundglass goalkeeper Jeevan Singh emerged the hero of the match as he saved the three penalties taken by the Naval Tata team in the penalty shoot. Japnit Singh, Arshdip Singh and Sunny Singh found the target during the shoot-off. to fetch a bonus point for Roundglass.

In another match, SAI, Sonipat, notched up its third successive victory by beating Surjit Academy 1-0, thanks to the goal by Navraj Singh.

Annika and Devvrat shine in first leg of US Kids Golf India

Former medallist Annika Chendira kicked off the 2025 US Kids Golf India season in style clinching the opening leg with a superb final-round 3-under 69 in overcast and wet conditions.

Annika, who had an eagle and two birdies in the last five holes, finished four shots clear of Aanya Dandriyal (71) in the Girls 11-12 Category at the Classic Golf and Country Club.

Apart from Annika, the other star of the day was Devvrat Singh Rajawat who also carded 3-under 69 in Boys 13-14 Category. He also had a great finish with three birdies in the last five holes and won his section by eight shots over Vidit Aggarwal (77).

Players in Categories for Under 8 and below played over nine holes, while all others played over 18 holes.

Some of the other standout performances included Zowra Sikand (38, 2-over) in Boys 8, Drona Singh Dhull (75, 3-over) in Boys 11, Yuvraj Singh (76, 4-over) who beat Rayirth Jain in a play-off in Boys 12, Tashi Jain (37, 1-over) in Girls 8 and Aaradhya Bhatnagar (79) and Jenaya Bamnyal (79) in Girls 9-10.
