Maaya enters second round of Junior U.S. Open

Teenager Maaya Rajeshwaran Revathi overcame China’s Zhang-Qian Wei to enter the second round of the junior girls’ singles event at the U.S. Open in New York.

The unseeded 16-year-old, who hails from Coimbatore and trains at the Rafael Nadal Academy in Mallorca, Spain, defeated her Chinese rival 7-6(5), 6-3 in little over an hour and half, riding on the points she converted on her first and second serves.

She will take on second-seeded Hannah Klugman of the United Kingdom in the second round.

Klugman decimated Aspen Schuman of the US 6-0, 6-2.

Maaya, who is emerging as a promising player, upset multiple senior players to make it to the semifinals of the Mumbai Open 2025 WTA 125 tournament in February.

Nagal makes second round of Tulin Challenger event

Sumit Nagal beat Mili Poljicak of Croatia 6-4, 6-2 in the first round of the €145,250 Challenger tennis tournament in Tulin, Austria, on Monday.

In the pre-quarterfinal, Sumit will play Filip Cristian Jianu of Romania.

Tennis Premier League’s Landmark 7th Season Heads to Ahmedabad

India’s only professional tennis league, the Tennis Premier League (TPL), held under the auspices of the All India Tennis Association (AITA), is gearing up for its much-awaited Season 7 from December 9 to 14 at the Gujarat University Tennis Stadium in Ahmedabad.

The eight-franchise competition, backed by icons such as Leander Paes, Sania Mirza, Mahesh Bhupathi, Rakul Preet Singh, and Sonali Bendre, will feature international tennis stars ranked between 30 and 50 in the ATP, alongside India’s top players, including two-time Grand Slam champion Rohan Bopanna.

Renowned for its unique 25-point format, TPL has carved a niche for its exciting, fast-paced play that continues to captivate audiences both in India and around the globe.

Ahmedabad, rapidly emerging as one of India’s leading sporting hubs, will serve as a fitting stage for the league. Over the past year, Tennis Premier League has deepened its association with the Gujarat State Tennis Association by conducting tournaments across age groups and supporting young players through the Race to Gold Scholarships, thereby strengthening its grassroots presence in the state through the TPL App.

Amandeep and Gurwinder Singh among the goals for Roundglass Academy

Amandeep and Gurwinder Singh scored five goals between them in guiding Roundglass Academy to a 7-0 victory over SGPC Academy in the Punjab Junior Hockey League at the Mohali International Stadium on Monday.

The Roundglass team had earlier beaten Namdhari Academy 2-0 on the inaugural day.

Sports Authority of India Centre, Sonipat, was the other team to win both its matches against SDAT Academy and Naval Tata Academy.

GOLF

Aditi finishes 32nd at FM Championships in Virginia

Indian golfer Aditi Ashok went through a rocky front nine followed for a one-over 73 in the final round to finish Tied-32nd at the FM Championship on the LPGA Tour.

Aditi had rounds of 68-70-70-73 for a 8-under total. She had three birdies against four bogeys in the final round.

Aditi is now 68th in the Race to CME Globe standings and needs to be in Top-60 to qualify for the season-ending tournament.

The top 100 players on the Race to the CME Globe standings earn their tour cards for the following season with the top 80 gaining a higher priority ranking.

This season Aditi has had two top-10 finishes in 15 starts and has made cut in nine events. Her best show has been sixth at the Portland Classic and she also a T-9 in Mexico.

Miranda Wang played superbly in the closing stages to beat the No. 1 player in women’s golf and won her first LPGA title.

Ahlawat finishes 33rd at European Masters, improves chances of retaining card

India’s Veer Ahlawat finished the week with an up-and-down final round of 2-under 68 to finish Tied-33rd at the European Masters.

Ahlawat, who has steadily been finding his feet on the DP World Tour, had rounds of 69-64-70-68 for a 9-under total.

It was the fourth successive cut he made and in those four starts he has once been T-25 at Nexo Championship and twice in the 30s in the final standings.

Ahlawat is now 129th in the standings and a few other good finishes could see the lanky star keep his DP World Tour status.

Overall Ahlawat has made 11 cuts in 18 starts with T-13 at Austrian Alpine and T-17 in Hero Indian Open as his best results.

Shubhankar Sharma continued to struggle and again missed the cut this week. It was his 13th straight missed cut and is 201st in Race to Dubai standings.
