Rathika loses close final
India’s Rathika Suthanthira Seelan lost a fiercely-contested final to Canadian top seed Iman Shaheen over five games in the NSW Open squash tournament in Sydney on Sunday.
The 24-year-old Rathika, second seed and world No. 180, rallied to win the third and fourth games in what was her fourth PSA final to take the Challenger event title-round down to the wire.
However, the Canadian edged her out in the decider to seal a hard-fought 11-8, 11-3, 4-11, 10-12, 12-10 in 61 minutes.
Earlier on Saturday, Rathika stormed into her fourth PSA final with straight-games win over New Zealand’s sixth seed Emma Merson.
Meanwhile, in Springfield (US), fifth seed and world No. 51 Veer Chotrani beat American world No. 32 and third seed Timothy Brownell 11-8, 11-8, 11-4 in the semifinals of the St James Expression Open, a PSA Copper event.
Chotrani will meet Mexican top seed Leonel Cardenas in the final.

Yashdeep, Deepshikha impresses at Asian Archery Championships
Promising archers Yashdeep Bhoge and Deepshikha gave fine performances to top recurve men’s and compound women’s charts respectively in the qualification round of the Asian Archery Championships in Dhaka on Sunday.
Olympian couple Atanu Das and Deepika Kumari overcame the lack of training due to family exigencies to shoot decent scores.
V. Jyothi Surekha placed third as four Indians finished inside the top five in compound women’s individual rankings.

Beighton Cup kicks off
Jharkhand XI pipped Punjab and Sind Bank 1-0 in the Beighton Cup at the Vivekananda Hockey Stadium in Kolkata.
In the other match of the day, Canara Bank defeated Odisha XI 4-3 via penalty shootout following a 2-2 deadlock in the regulation time.

Ajeetesh Sandhu finishes T-37 as Japan’s Asaji clinches Moutai Singapore Open
Indian golfer Ajeetesh Sandhu finished at T-37 with a total score of 9-under 279 for the tournament after a 70 (-2) in the fourth round of the Moutai Singapore Open.
Meanwhike, Yosuke Asaji became the first player from Japan to win the event in nearly 50 years after he beat Korea’s Jeunghun Wang on the first hole of a sudden-death play-off at the USD 2 million tournament.
