Gunjan, Radhamani, Chandrika register wins for India in Day 5 of World Boxing Futures Cup

The Indian Youth boxing team recorded a series of strong performances on the fifth day of the World Boxing Futures Cup 2026 in Bangkok, with Gunjan, Radhamani Longjam and Chandrika Pujari registering victories in their respective bouts.

In the morning session, Gunjan (48kg) secured a convincing 5-0 unanimous decision victory over Poland. Radhamani Longjam (57kg) delivered a dominant display, defeating her opponent from Ecuador by Referee Stopped Contest (RSC) in the first round.

However, Prachi (60kg) went down 5-0 to Slovakia, while Priyansh Sehrawat (70kg) suffered a 5-0 defeat against Morocco in the men’s division.

Later in the evening session, Chandrika Pujari (50kg) added another win to India’s tally with a 5-0 unanimous decision victory over the United States.

The World Boxing Futures Cup, being held in Bangkok from March 8 to 15, features promising youth boxers from across the world competing in the Youth Olympic weight categories, providing crucial international exposure and preparation for future global competitions.

The Indian contingent will now look to carry forward the momentum as the tournament progresses toward the final stages.

Madras International Karting Arena to host international Karting competition in September

The Madras Motor Sports Club will host India’s first-ever international karting competition, the FIA-CIK Arrive and Drive, in September at its Madras International Karting Arena (MIKA) in September this year.

Announcing this at the MMSC Annual Awards Function to honour the 2025 National Racing Championship winners here on Thursday, MMSC Vice-President Vicky Chadhok said: “The Arrive-and-Drive competition in September at the MIKA circuit, will be one of the three rounds and we will see karters from across the globe competing, and it is the first of its kind in India.”

Another first for MMSC will be a 4×4 off-road facility, also at the Madras International Circuit facility in Sriperumbudur. “That apart, we have plans to introduce the Crosscars into the Indian motorsport ecosystem.

First of the crosscar is expected at the MIC shortly and we will be adding another four or five of these vehicles that will be seen in a club championship. Later, this will be developed into a National Championship,” Chandhok added.

ITF M25 tournament – Siddharth Rawat upsets Dominik Palan as four Indians enter the quarterfinals

Unseeded Indian Siddharth Rawat delivered an impressive performance to upset fourth-seeded Dominik Palan of the Czech Republic in the pre-quarterfinals of the Central Excise & CGST – ITF M25 Tournament at the Bengal Tennis Association Complex on Thursday.

A member of the Indian Davis Cup squad, Rawat displayed excellent control and precision throughout the match. He raced through the opening set 6-2 and was firmly in command at 3-0 in the second set when Palan conceded the match, citing illness and discomfort. Rawat will now face compatriot Abhinav Shanmugam in the quarterfinals on Friday.

Shanmugam, a wild card entrant from Tamil Nadu and currently ranked 22 in the country, continued his impressive run with a hard-fought 7-6(4), 7-5 win over higher-ranked Rohan Mehra to reach the last eight. Another Indian wild card, Shanker Heisnam of Manipur, bowed out after a spirited fight against top seed Luca Castelnuovo of Switzerland, who won 7-5, 6-2.

Second seed Karan Singh and unseeded Manish Sureshkumar also progressed to the quarterfinals, ensuring a strong Indian presence in the tournament’s final eight.
