Sidharth Rawat wins Thailand ITF title

Sixth seed Sidharth Rawat beat Markus Malaszszak of Thailand 6-4, 6-2 in the final of the $15,000 ITF men’s tennis tournament in Nakhon Pathom, Thailand, on Sunday.

It was a fighting performance by Sidharth all the way, as he had won three of the earlier four rounds in three sets, that included a win over third seed Max Basing of Britain.

It was the third singles title in the professional circuit for the 32-year-old Sidharth, who trains with coach Gaurav Sharma in the Capital.

Rounak retains men’s singles title, Shriyanshi win women’s crown at India Junior Intl Series

Top seed Rounak Chouhan edged out Gnana Dattu in a three-game final to retain his men’s singles crown at the Kotak India Junior International Series in Hyderabad on Sunday.

After dropping the opening game 15-21, Rounak showed tremendous grit as he bounced back strongly to take the next two en route to a 15-21, 21-13, 21-13 win, repeating his title-winning run from last year.

In women’s singles, third seed Shriyanshi Valishetty produced a dominant display to outclass Aikya Shetty 21-12, 21-8 and clinch the championship.

The men’s doubles final provided one of the day’s biggest upsets as the unseeded pair of Niranjaan G Nandakumar and Yudhajith Reddy Padigepati prevailed over top seeds Bhavya Chhabra and C Lalramsanga 21-17, 14-21, 23-21 in a tense decider.

In women’s doubles, Deepak Raj Aditi and Ponnamma BV Vriddhi defeated Keerthy Manchala and Varna Prabu Anand 21-13, 21-17 at the Kotak Pullela Gopichand Badminton Academy.

Vansh Dev and Shravani Walekar overcame the seeded duo of Mithileish P Krishnan and Varna Prabu Anand 19-21, 21-16, 21-15 to win the Mixed doubles crown.

Veer Ahlawat placed tied 46th at DP World Tour

India’s Veer Ahlawat shot his second consecutive round of 1-under 71 and was placed tied 46th on the third day of the Betfred British Masters on the DP World Tour in Sutton Coldfield, United kingdom.

Ahlawat (73-71-71) has a combined score of one under par and at the Belfry Hotel & Resort.

In his third round Ahlawat shot four birdies, one eagle and five bogeys. Having begun the day with a bogey on the first hole, Ahlawat strung together three birdies in a row between the third and fifth holes before dropping another shot on the eighth hole.

He picked up a shot on the 10th and then dropped one on the 11th and another on the 13th. The highlight of the round was the eagle and it came on the 15th before making the final bogey of the day on the 17th hole.

Indian-origin player Aaron Rai carded 2-under 70 on the third day to put himself in tied 40th position on the leaderboard with a 54-hole score of two under par.

Aditi in top 30 with one round to play at Women’s Open

Indian golfer Aditi Ashok carded an even par round of 71 on the third day of the CPKC Women’s Open to sit tied 29th on the leaderboard.

The 27-year-old Aditi (71-69-71) now has a score of two under par at the Mississaugua Golf & Country Club.

She made three birdies and as many bogeys in her third round.

On the fourth hole Aditi dropped a shot and then made a birdie on the eighth. On the back nine she dropped a shot on the 11th only to regain it on the 12th and dropped one more on the 14th hole.

A late birdie on the 17th helped her finish the day with an even par score.

Sneha, Pranavi and Hitaashee make cut in Hills Open in Sweden

Indian golfers Sneha Singh, Pranavi Urs and Hitaashee Bakshi made the cut on the second day of the Hills Open in Gothenburg, Sweden.

Sneha, who is still in her early days on the Ladies European Tour, did well despite some struggles on the front nine. She added 2-over 73 to her first round 72 to be Tied-22nd.

While Pranavi (76-72) and Hitaashee (74-75) were placed T-41st and T-53rd respectively on a day when conditions eased after a windy opener.

The remaining Indians, Amandeep Drall (77-77), Tvesa Malik (79-76), Avani Prashanth (72-84) and Vani Kapoor missed the cut, which fell at seven-over par. Vani retired in the second round.
