Indian Open Jumps 2026: Sarvesh Kushare wins high jump title but fails to meet Asian Games qualification mark
Maharashtra’s Sarvesh Kushare (2.16m) won the men’s high jump at the 5th Indian open jumps competition held at the Anju Bobby High Performance Centre in Bengaluru on Saturday.
However, Sarvesh, who finished sixth in the 2025 World Athletics Championships, missed out on the qualifying standards for the 2026 Asian Games (2.19m) and 2026 Commonwealth Games (2.22m).
Para athlete Nishad Kumar, who won high jump silver at the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics and 2024 Paris Paralympics, claimed fifth spot with a best effort of 2.10m.
In the men’s triple jump, 2023 Asian Championships gold medallist Abdulla Aboobacker (16.83m) edged out National Record holder Praveen Chithravel (16.78m) to claim victory.
The Madhya Pradesh duo of Dev Meena and Kuldeep Kumar cleared 5.25m in the men’s pole vault, but it was Meena who was declared the champion on the basis of fewer misses. Meena and Kuldeep attained the qualifying standard for 2026 Commonwealth Games (5.25m).
