India U-19 boys reach ITTF World Youth Championships final for the first time ever
Indian Under-19 boys entered the final of the ITTF World Youth Championships for the first time ever in Romania on Monday.
The team comprising Ankur Bhattacharjee, P. B. Abhinandh, and Priyanjuj Bhattacharya defeated Chinese Taipei 3-2 in the semifinals. India will face Japan in the final later on Tuesday.
Bhattacharjee gave India the lead by winning the opening match against Hsu Hsien-Chia 3-2 before Kuo Guan-Hong levelled the score with a 3-1 win over Abhinandh. Bhattacharya restored India’s advantage with a 3-2 win over Lin Chin-Ting.
Chinese Taipei forced a decider after Kuo beat Bhattacharjee 3-0, but Abhinandh sealed the result with a commanding 3-0 win over Hsu.
Meanwhile, the India U-15 girls team — Ankolika Chakraborty, Divyanshi Bhowmick, and Ananya Muralidharan — settled for bronze after a 0-3 loss to South Africa in the semifinals.
