Gulveer Singh shatters national record in men’s 5000m with silver at Sound Running LA Track Fest

Asian champion in men’s 5000m and 10,000 m, Gulveer Singh, added another feather to his cap with a silver medal in men’s 5000m at the Sound Running Track Fest in Los Angeles on Sunday.

On his way to the runner-up spot, he broke his own national record set in Japan two years ago, improving by eight seconds from 13:11.82 to 13:03.93 in the United States of America.

Gulveer is currently based in Colorado Springs, USA, and is the first Indian distance runner to hold multiple national records across events ranging from the 3,000m on the track to the 25km road race.

The silver at Los Angeles marked Gulveer’s fourth competitive outing this season.

He claimed third place in the 5,000m short track event at the Sound Running Invite in Winston-Salem, USA, in February and became the first Indian to clock a sub-60-minute half-marathon the next month, finishing an impressive third at the NYC Half Marathon 2026 in New York.
