Gukesh becomes world champion: From Tamil Nadu CM to Sachin Tendulkar, more wishes pour in for chess wiz


Gukesh D was crowned the new chess world champion after beating Ding Liren in the 14th round of the World Championship clash in Singapore on Thursday.

At just 18, Gukesh became the youngest ever to win the coveted title, beating the previous record of Garry Kasparov.

Here’s are some of the top reactions to Gukesh’s special achievement:

Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar wished the new world champion, saying Gukesh had opened up a “world of endless possibilities.”

Garry Kasparov, whose record Gukesh beat to become the new world champion, had a warm message for the 18-year-old.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, MK Stalin showed his appreciation towards the Chennai lead, saying Gukesh’s win helps “Chennai reaffirm its place as the global Chess Capital.”

Legendary Indian cricketer VVS Laxman joined in on the wishes.
