Grand Chess Tour Finals 2025: Praggnanandhaa loses against Vachier-Lagrave in semifinal
Indian Grandmaster R. Praggnanandhaa lost to France’s GM Maxime Vachier-Lagrave in their Grand Chess Tour Final 2025 semifinal tie in Sao Paulo, Brazil, on Wednesday.
After their classical games ended in a tie, the players faced off in two rapid games followed by four blitz games, with the Frenchman winning 17-11 in the end.
Vachier-Lagrave took a four-point lead in the clash after winning the first rapid game, while the second one ended in a draw.
In the blitz round, Praggnanandhaa came close to levelling the score twice, but faltered despite being in a winning position.
In the final, Vachier-Lagrave will face Fabiano Caruana, who beat Levon Aronian 15-13 in their semifinal tie.
