French Open: Unnati Hooda loses in round of 16; Mixed doubles pair of Rohan-Ruthvika also crash out
India’s women’s shuttler Unnati Hooda exited the French Open Super 750 tournament after her 14-21, 11-21 reverse at the hands of World No. 2 Wang Zhiyi of China in round of 16 on Thursday.
The 18-year-old had defeated Malaysia’s Letshanaa Karupathevan in the first round on Wednesday but lost in 39 minutes in the pre-quarterfinal.
In mixed doubles, Rohan Kapoor and Ruthvika Shivani Gadde lost 23-21, 8-21, 17-21 to France’s Thom Gicquel and Delphine Delrue.
The results meant India’s contention at the French Open came to an end. On Wednesday, men’s doubles pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty went down in the first round. Before that, Lakshya Sen also suffered a tame defeat in the opening round.
