FIDE Women’s World Cup: Divya, Humpy enter pre-quarterfinals


India’s Divya Deshmukh beat Croatian Teodora Injac on Sunday to enter the pre-quarterfinals of the ongoing FIDE Women’s World Cup.

Later in the day, her compatriot and senior Koneru Humpy followed Divya to the next stage after defeating Poland’s Klaudia Kulon.

Playing with black pieces in the first game, Divya beat Injac before the teenager drew with the Croat in the second game to complete her win in the third round.

On the other hand, Koneru drew her first game with Kulon before winning the second game while playing with the black pieces.

The other three Indians in action are Vantika Agrawal, R. Vaishali, and Harika Dronavalli, all of whom have ended their third round matches in draws.
