F1 Japanese GP 2025: Why did Red Bull drivers Verstappen and Tsunoda race in white cars?
Red Bull’s Max Verstappen won the Japanese Grand Prix for the fourth year in a row after starting the race from pole position on Sunday.
Verstappen’s win came in a white Red Bull. Usually, the Red Bull cars have dark blue as the dominant colour in the livery. However, this weekend, the team used a white livery to celebrate its partnership with Honda.
The design concept is a tribute to the RA272, which gave Honda its inaugural win in 1965. The livery recreated the RA272’s Japanese flag motif, featuring the ‘H’ logo on the nose and the simple Honda logo on the rear of the bodywork.
This is the last season Honda and Red Bull are working together. Red Bull has a deal with Ford which starts in 2026.
Red Bull previously raced in a special white livery at the 2021 Turkish Grand Prix.
This Sunday’s race also marked Yuki Tsunoda’s Red Bull debut. In his home race, Tsunoda finished 12th.
