Europe Smash 2025: Manav Thakkar loses in singles but enters men’s doubles quarterfinals with Manush Shah
Indian paddler Manav Thakkar bowed out of the men’s singles at the Europe Smash 2025 but remained in contention in the men’s doubles after entering the quarterfinals alongside partner Manush Shah on Wednesday.
Manav lost 1-3 (10-12, 7-11, 11-4, 12-14) to South Korea’s An Jae-hyun in a Round of 32 match which saw two closely-contested games, but Jae-hyun prevailed over the Indian within 36 minutes.
Later in the day, he partnered up with Manush and clinched three consecutive games to beat Poland’s Milosz Redzimski and Maciej Kubik 3-1 (9-11, 11-4, 11-5, 11-6). The fifth-seeded Indian pair will face fourth seeds Tomokazu Harimoto and Hiroto Shinozuka of Japan in the quarterfinals.
In the women’s doubles category, Diya Chitale and Yashaswini Ghorpade lost out 1-3 (5-11, 10-12, 12-10, 9-11) to Germany’s Yuan Wan and Sabine Winter.
Later in the day, Diya will partner up with Manush to face Romania’s Eduard Ionescu and Bernadette Szocs in the mixed doubles quarterfinals.
