Europe Smash 2025: Indian challenge ends after Manav-Manush pair loses men’s doubles quarterfinal


The Indian challenge at the Europe Smash 2025 ended on Thursday after the men’s doubles pair of Manav Thakkar and Manush Shah lost to Japan’s Tomokazu Harimoto and Hiroto Shinozuka in the quarterfinals.

Fifth-seeded pair of Manav-Manush lost 1-3 (11-13, 11-8, 8-11, 5-11) to the fourth-seeded Japanese duo in a clash which was wrapped up within 33 minutes.

The Indian pair had beaten Poland’s Milosz Redzimski and Maciej Kubik 3-1 (9-11, 11-4, 11-5, 11-6) in the Round of 16.

Late on Wednesday night, the mixed doubles duo of Manush and Diya Chitale was blanked 0-3 (10-12, 3-11, 7-11) by Romania’s Eduard Ionescu and Bernadette Szocs. The sixth seeds from India failed to open their account in the quarterfinal match which got over in 20 minutes.

In men’s singles, Manav had lost 1-3 (10-12, 7-11, 11-4, 12-14) to South Korea’s An Jae-hyun in a Round of 32 match which saw two closely-contested games, but Jae-hyun prevailed over the Indian within 36 minutes.

In the women’s doubles category, Diya Chitale and Yashaswini Ghorpade had lost out 1-3 (5-11, 10-12, 12-10, 9-11) to Germany’s Yuan Wan and Sabine Winter.
