China Masters 2025: Satwik-Chirag pair through to round of 16, Lakshya knocked out


Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty booked their spot in the round of 16 at China Masters, a BWF World Tour Super 750 event, in Shenzhen with a straight-games win on Wednesday.

Two-time World Championships bronze medallists Satwik and Chirag took down the Malaysian duo of Junaidi Arif and Roy King Yap 24-22, 21-13 in 42 minutes. The two pairs had also met in the quarterfinals of last week’s Hong Kong Open, where the Indians had won in three games.

Satwik-Chirag duo will be up against Chinese Taipei’s Chiu Hsiang Chieh and Wang Chi-Lin in the next round.

In men’s singles, Lakshya Sen, who finished runner-up at Hong Kong Open, went down 21-11, 21-10 to Frenchman Toma Junior Popov in half an hour in the first round.

The mixed doubles pair of Dhruv Kapila and Tanisha Crasto also suffered defeat, losing 21-19, 21-13 to China’s Feng Yan Zhe and Huang Dong Ping.

Later in the day, the women’s doubles pair of Rutaparna and Swetaparna Panda will take on Malaysia’s Ong Xin Yee and Carmen Ting.
