Chess World Cup 2025: Arjun Erigaisi beats Aronian to reach quarterfinals


India’s Arjun Erigaisi advanced to the quarterfinals of the Chess World Cup after beating American GM Levon Aronian in Goa on Saturday.

After a draw in the first classical game, third seed Arjun took down Aronian with black pieces in the second for a 1.5-0.5 victory.

Pentala Harikrishna, the only other remaining Indian in the competition, headed to tiebreaks after playing another draw with Mexican José Eduardo Martínez Alcántara.
