BWF proposes new 3×15 format, AGM to vote on April 25
The Badminton World Federation (BWF) has proposed switching to a 3×15 scoring format from the current 3×21 system, with a membership vote on the change scheduled at the BWF Annual General Meeting on April 25.
At its meeting in November, the BWF said the 3×15 format offered the best balance between match excitement, competitive fairness, player welfare and tournament presentation.
The new format has already been trialled in select national and Grade 3 tournaments, as well as at last year’s BWF World Junior Championships in Guwahati.

Among the benefits cited by the BWF are more close-score situations, quicker progression to critical points, and more predictable match durations, which it said would help broadcasters, players and technical officials.
