Best performance in FIDE Candidates: Sindarov nears all-time points record with win against Wei
After beating China’s Wei Yi in the sixth round of the Open section in the FIDE Candidates Tournament 2026, Uzbekistan’s Javokhir Sindarov is well placed to enter the record books.
With eight more rounds to go, Sindarov currently leads the standings with 5.5 points out of a possible six with enough time to pull off a historic run.
Ever since the format moved to double round-robin one from the 2013 edition, it is Russian Grandmaster Ian Nepomniachtchi’s 9.5-point campaign in Madrid which sits atop this list.
