Australian Open 2025: Sumit Nagal exits in first round


Sumit Nagal exited the Australian Open 2025 in the first round after being overpowered by Czechia’s Tomas Machac in Melbourne.

While the Indian displayed some fight in the first set, which he lost 3-6, Machac showed complete dominance in the second, winning it 6-1.

The 26th-seeded Machac was able to read the Indian’s serve with ease. Nagal looked visibly frustrated and down after losing the first two sets.

However, the third set saw a much-better performance as he took a two-game lead. He broke Czech player’s serve a couple of times but could not serve out the set at 5-3.

In the end, Machac got himself over the line with a straight-sets win over Nagal, after clinching the third set 7-5, in a match that lasted two hours and five minutes.
