Asia Hockey Cup 2025 unveils mascot ‘Chaand’ as tribute to Indian legend Major Dhyanchand
The upcoming Men’s Asia Hockey Cup 2025, which will take place from August 29 to September 7 in Rajgir, Bihar, has unveiled its official mascot, Chaand. A powerful tiger symbolising the spirit of Indian hockey. His name pays homage to legendary Indian player Major Dhyanchand, who is known as the “Wizard of Hockey.”
Draped in a red cape of courage and crowned with a magician’s hat, Chaand embodies skill, spirit, and showmanship.
Named after the Hindi word for moon, ‘Chaand’ alludes to Dhyanchand’s dedication, practicing under moonlight. Inspired by the majestic tigers of Bihar’s Valmiki Tiger Reserve, the mascot embodies strength, agility, and pride. His action-ready stance, with eyes fixed on the goal, channels the same focus and control that made Dhyanchand a legend.
More than just a mascot, Chaand is a symbol of determination and the heartbeat of Bihar’s sporting future. His story fuses tradition, excellence, and playfulness, making the Men’s Asia Hockey Cup more than a tournament—it’s a movement.
The inaugural day, August 29, coincides with Major Dhyanchand’s birthday, celebrated as National Sports Day. With Chaand leading the way, Bihar is set to roar its commitment to bringing hockey to the forefront.
