Aman Sehrawat, Antim Panghal to compete at trials for wrestling Asian Championships

Paris Olympics bronze medallist Aman Sehrawat and double Worlds bronze medallist Antim Panghal will compete in men’s 57kg and women’s 53kg categories respectively at the selection trials for the Asian Championships to be held on March 17 in Delhi and Lucknow.

Even though the list of eligible athletes showed Aman in 61kg weight class and Antim in 55kg, coaches overseeing the camps confirmed that they would compete in their usual categories.

“Since Aman participated in 61kg at the last National championships in Ahmedabad in December last, his name has come under the 61kg list. However, he will take part in 57kg,” said coach Vinod Kumar.

Women’s head coach Virender Dahiya confirmed that even though Antim’s name was put in 55kg under similar circumstances, she would participate in 53kg.

Weight tolerance of one kg will be allowed for the five lower weight categories and two kg for the higher weight classes across all styles.

Earlier, the trials were scheduled to be held on March 9 and 10. Following the delayed arrival of Indian teams from the second Ranking Series event in Albania due to flight disruptions owing to the West Asia crisis, the trials were postponed to March 17.
