AFI asks eligible females to undergo SRY gene test before World Championships in Tokyo
Following the World Athletics rule for female athletes wishing to compete in world ranking events to undergo SRY gene test, the Athletics Federation of India (AFI) has said that the eligible athletes must go through the mandatory test prior to the World championships in Tokyo, Japan, next month.
“It is pertinent to mention that all female athletes who meet the qualification standards for the World Athletics Championships 2025 should undergo the SRY gene test in consultation with the AFI,” said a circular from the federation.

“All concerned are requested to ensure compliance with the above requirement at the earliest, failing which the concerned athlete(s) shall not be permitted to compete in the female category.”
AFI spokesperson Adille Sumariwalla clarified that the WA rule “will be for all athletes representing the country in Tokyo.”
