Karman secures spot in French Open singles qualifying draw
India’s Karman Kaur Thandi on Monday secured her spot in the women’s singles qualifying draw for the French Open. She will face Harmony Tan in the first round of qualifying on Tuesday. Both players are unseeded for the qualifying draw.
Karman earned her spot in the elite qualification draw based on her Protected Ranking (PR) of 238, which secured her the 119th position on the official entry list. Her participation officially ends India’s recent drought of representation in Grand Slam singles events.
“Roland Garros for me is a reminder that setbacks don’t define you, the courage to return does. I’m proud to carry India onto one of the sport’s biggest stages. Every athlete dreams of moments like this. I’m arriving at Roland Garros with purpose, gratitude, and the belief that hard journeys create stronger competitors. The road back wasn’t easy, which makes standing here even more rewarding,” she said.

Avani finishes T-49 in Hamburg
Indian golfer Avani Prashanth carded her first bogey-free round of 2-under 71 to finish the week in T-49 place at the Amundi German Masters in Hamburg.
Avani, who had rounds of 78-69-81-71, ended with a total of 7-over par.
In her final round, Avani parred the first eight holes before picking her first birdie of the day on the ninth hole.
On the back nine she picked up another stroke with a birdie on the 14th and closed the round without dropping a stroke to end the week at T-49.
Earlier in the week, Pranavi Urs and Vani Kapoor missed the cut.
In eight starts this season, Avani, who finished in Top-5 at the Hero Indian Open last year, has made the cut in five with a best showing of T-39 in PIF Saudi Ladies International in February.
She is lying way back in 111th place as Diksha Dagar, who did not play in Germany, is the best Indian on the LET Order of Merit.
