TePe Sigeman & Co 2026 — Arjun Erigaisi draws with Yagiz Erdogmus; Magnus Carlsen gets a win
A win at the TePe Sigeman & Co 2026 eluded Arjun Erigaisi as he played out draws in consecutive rounds, with the last one coming against Yagiz Kaan Erdogmus on Sunday.
The contest lasted 78 moves of a Ruy Lopez where both Erdogmus and Erigaisi stood better at one stage or another. The Indian grandmaster was winning in a Queen endgame but only drew.
The result saw Erigaisi fall to fourth in the standings after the second round, while Magnus Carlsen, his previous opponent, joined the leaders Nodirbek Abdusattorov and Andy Woodward after beating Nils Grandelius.
In Carlsen’s return to classical chess after almost a year, Erigaisi held the Norwegian to a draw in the opening round. But in the next challenge, the World No. 1 refused to give any space to Grandelius, ending up as the only winner in this round.
In the match between Abdusattorov and Woodward, the former looked in control until the first time control, when the Uzbek grandmaster made inroads into the match.
However, he couldn’t land the final blow, ending up with shared spoils after a gritty contest.
Abdusattorov faces Carlsen next while Woodward goes up against Jorden Van Foreest. Erigaisi, tied at fourth with Zhu Jiner and Van Foreest with a point each, will continue his pursuit of a win against bottom-placed Grandelius.
