Indian Open: Chacarra, Jarvis take charge on rain-marred Day Two
Rain delays, bad light and an incomplete round were all no match for Eugenio Chacarra, who dug deep, bringing all his experience on the course to go top of the leaderboard even as Indian golfers fell short in Round Two of the Hero Indian Open at the DLF Golf & Country Club here on Friday.
Play was delayed for almost an hour and a half due to rain and bad light in the morning, pushing tee-offs. With the backlog piling up, the last group started as late as 2.20 pm. Play was called off around 6.40 pm with 30 golfers still to complete their second round, which will now continue on Saturday morning.
Chacarra, one shot adrift overnight, had four birdies and three bogeys for a fairly balanced round, topped off with an eagle on the 18th for a two-day total of eight-under 136. He was followed closely by South African Casey Jarvis, one stroke behind, MJ Daffue and Round One leader Freddy Schott, making the top-five.

Jarvis was the man of the moment with nine birdies through the day, his perfect round marred by a single bogey on the 4th to finish with an eight-under 64 for the day, the best performance over the first two days. Coming off two consecutive title wins this year, the 22-year-old Jarvis admitted he was high on confidence.
“The greens were a bit softer this morning, so I took advantage of that on my front nine. Then the rain helped on the back nine. I’m just running on confidence at the moment. I think it’s the perfect preparation (for Augusta),” Jarvis said.
Meanwhile, with the cut projected at four-over, only two Indians – veteran Om Prakash Chouhan and 18-year-old Manoj S — are expected to remain in action over the weekend, even as USA’s Akshay Bhatia hovered dangerously close, staying just over the mark with two holes to go.
